After he and Lekzy DeComic were unable to take up an invitation to the Bloemfontein International Comedy Festival in South Africa because they couldn't secure visas, OB Amponsah spoke out about the state of Ghana's stand-up industry.
His warning: the industry is standing on wobbly legs, and could collapse without real support from stakeholders. Even established comedians with a track record of filling venues like the National Theatre, he said, still struggle to find sponsors for their shows.
He also highlighted what the community has built for itself in spite of that — the GH Comedians Network, a weekly Thursday comedy night at 2927 pub, and tours of tertiary schools.
